The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and the Petroleum Commission (PC) have entered into a new agreement to jointly promote, market, and share revenue from seismic and geochemical data collected under GNPC’s Reconnaissance License for the Voltaian Basin Project.
The deal, signed at GNPC’s Training Centre in Accra, sets out a framework for collaboration between the National Oil Company and the industry regulator. It also lays down modalities for revenue sharing from future licensing of the basin’s data resources.
Speaking at the ceremony, Acting GNPC CEO Kwame Ntow Amoah described the agreement as a milestone in efforts to maximise the value of Ghana’s petroleum data. “This project is a lifeline. With the right investment, we can replicate the offshore success story onshore — on our own terms,” he said, urging stakeholders to stay committed to the Voltaian Basin agenda.
Emeafa Hardcastle, CEO of the Petroleum Commission, hailed the pact as timely and strategic. She said it demonstrates the two institutions’ shared determination to boost Ghana’s upstream sector and pledged her outfit’s support in marketing the basin’s resources.
The Voltaian Basin Project is GNPC’s flagship onshore petroleum initiative, aimed at unlocking Ghana’s hydrocarbon potential in its inland sedimentary basin. Officials believe the basin could be a game-changer for the country’s energy future if properly developed.
