The government has announced plans to revise the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Act to prioritize the purchase of locally manufactured goods, reinforcing its commitment to economic self-reliance under the 24-hour economy policy.
Speaking at the 2025 Post-Budget Workshop in Parliament, Goosie Tanoh, Presidential Advisor on the 24-hour economy, introduced the "Go Ghana" initiative—a national drive to support domestic industries and reduce import dependency.
He emphasized that fostering a culture of consuming locally made products is crucial for sustaining industrial growth and strengthening Ghana’s economy.
“Go Ghana is a mobilisation effort that encourages every Ghanaian to support national development, whether through environmental initiatives or by prioritising made-in-Ghana goods,” Mr. Tanoh stated.
To institutionalize this initiative, the government plans to amend the PPA Act to guarantee market access for local manufacturers, ensuring a consistent demand for their products. Drawing lessons from the economic transformation of Asian nations, Mr. Tanoh underscored the importance of prioritizing homegrown industries to achieve long-term growth.
While the policy is designed to be private-sector-driven, the government is considering limited financial support, which will be reviewed in the mid-year budget assessment. This approach aims to create a sustainable and competitive local manufacturing sector.
