The government has announced plans to establish a National Defence University (NDU) to enhance professional training and academic development across Ghana’s security services.

Speaking at the event, the Minister confirmed that the draft legislation is almost ready for parliamentary consideration.
The proposed institution is expected to consolidate and upgrade existing military and security training structures under a unified tertiary framework, positioning Ghana’s defence agencies to meet evolving security demands.\
Mr Iddrisu also commended the Speaker for launching the scholarship scheme, describing him as a leader with exceptional academic and professional grounding.
He noted that Speaker Bagbin’s career trajectory and breadth of experience would qualify him to chair the governing board of any top global university.
The scholarship initiative aims to build capacity within Parliament by supporting MPs and staff to pursue advanced academic and professional training.
