The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has confirmed that the revised Energy Sector Levies under Act 1141 will officially take effect from July 16, 2025, following a short delay in implementation last month.

This update was disclosed in a statement issued by the Acting Commissioner-General, Anthony Akwasi Sarpong. It comes after an earlier announcement on June 13, where the GRA indicated that the rollout had been paused. The decision to delay was made in collaboration with the Ministries of Finance and Energy to monitor global oil trends and safeguard Ghana’s relatively stable fuel prices.

After reassessing global market dynamics, the GRA says conditions are now favourable for the amended levies to proceed. “The Act will be implemented as scheduled from July 16 in accordance with the government’s economic management agenda,” the statement noted.

The Authority has since alerted key players—fuel importers, distributors, and customs officers—to prepare for the new implementation date. It also confirmed that updates have been made to the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS), meaning customs declarations from July 16 will now reflect the new levy adjustments automatically.

The GRA described the amended levy as a vital instrument in boosting revenue for the country’s energy needs. The funds are expected to support energy infrastructure improvements and settle sector-related debts while aligning with global pricing and Ghana’s economic strategy.

Stakeholders are being urged to cooperate and comply fully to ensure a seamless rollout. According to the GRA, this step is crucial not only for the energy sector but also for broader economic resilience and stability.
