The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is preparing to introduce a new tax initiative specifically designed for micro- and small-scale businesses, aiming to simplify and make tax filing more accessible nationwide.

Speaking after a meeting with executives of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) in Accra, Acting Commissioner-General Anthony Kwasi Sarpong revealed that the upcoming Modified Taxation Programme will focus on easing the burden of tax compliance for informal sector operators and small enterprises.

According to Mr. Sarpong, the program will allow small businesses to register and pay taxes through a streamlined, user-friendly process—part of a broader strategy to close revenue gaps and expand the national tax base.

He stressed the importance of collaboration between the GRA and the business community, stating, “Our success in revenue mobilization depends largely on the success of businesses. When they thrive, we all benefit—especially the country.”

As part of efforts to build stronger ties with stakeholders, the GRA also announced plans to hold quarterly sessions with business groups to promote better understanding of tax policies and address key challenges in the filing process.

On his part, GUTA President Dr. Joseph Obeng welcomed the initiative, saying consistent engagement with the GRA will build trust and encourage more businesses to comply voluntarily.

The Commissioner-General also indicated that concerns raised during the meeting would be escalated to the Ministry of Finance as part of efforts to shape responsive tax policies.
