Ghana’s Ministry of Health says it will investigate concerns raised in an investigative report by The Fourth Estate about the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, commonly known as Ridge Hospital.
In a statement, the ministry said it had noted the report’s wide circulation on social media and the public reaction it has generated.
It expressed sympathy for patients and relatives who may have experienced poor treatment in any health facility, and said the government remains focused on reducing the stress and financial burden people face when seeking care.
But the ministry said some of the report’s allegations were troubling and required close scrutiny.
It announced it is putting together an investigative committee to examine the issues raised, adding that the committee will be required to submit its findings within 14 working days.
The ministry also called on relevant stakeholders, including The Fourth Estate, to cooperate fully with the inquiry to establish the facts and strengthen accountability and service delivery across the health system.
