In a writ filed on August 25, 2025, Mr. Frimpong accused Dr. Clement Oppong, a practitioner at the Ashaiman Municipal Hospital, and his private facility, Graceyard Hospital, of professional misconduct and breach of duty of care.
A High Court in Accra has been petitioned by Clement Frimpong, a grieving husband, who is suing a medical doctor and his private hospital for alleged negligence that led to the death of his wife, Naomi Okyere, following childbirth complications.
In a writ filed on August 25, 2025, Mr. Frimpong accused Dr. Clement Oppong, a practitioner at the Ashaiman Municipal Hospital, and his private facility, Graceyard Hospital, of professional misconduct and breach of duty of care.
According to the claim, although Naomi had been receiving antenatal care at Ashaiman Municipal Hospital, Dr. Oppong advised the couple to continue her treatment at his private hospital, promising more personalized care. She was admitted to Graceyard on November 7, 2024, and the next day underwent a cesarean section.
Mr. Frimpong alleged that within days of the surgery, his wife developed serious complications including anemia, severe pre-eclampsia, and acute kidney injury. Despite repeated blood transfusions over four days, her condition deteriorated, leading to her death.
The lawsuit demands:
GH₵1.5 million in damages for wrongful death, emotional trauma, and loss of support.
GH₵500,000 in compensation to support the couple’s infant child and two other young children.
Revocation of Dr. Oppong’s medical license for gross negligence.
Closure and withdrawal of Graceyard Hospital’s license for failing to meet patient care and regulatory standards.
The plaintiff is also seeking costs, including legal fees, and any additional orders the court considers necessary “in the interest of justice, public safety, and accountability.”
