The Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has reiterated his commitment to a modern public legal service that is fully equipped to live up to its expectations.
According to him, such a service ought to offer its onerous constitutional and statutory duties to the nation.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Law House in Accra today, Mr. Dame mentioned that the project represents a giant step toward realizing that dream.
Consisting of twelve storey; ten above and two at the basement—the Law House which began decades ago, has finally been commissioned and handed over to the Office of the Attorney General for use.
It boasts of a vast conference room, a canteen, and libraries, in addition to the various offices for lawyers.
The AG added that the House will house the three divisions of the office, made up of the civil, prosecution, and legislative drafting divisions.
Moreover, he was hopeful that every regional office of the AG would own at least a three-story building and has thus commenced a discussion with the World Bank in that regard.
Mr Dame also revealed his quest to spearhead the acquisition of funding to construct a modern permanent office for the Legal Aid Commission.
He also indicated his vision to strengthen the litigating capacity of the Office of the Attorney General to meet the demands of the various facets of litigation, including international arbitration.
Furthermore, he said that the quality of representation of the state by his office has considerably increased as the state holds its own in most international arbitration without the aid of foreign counsel.
The Attorney General said that even though the last few years have seen a reduction of international arbitration cases against the state, it has conspicuously won in all.
As part of his vision for a modern legal service, the Attorney General touched on the need to have a fully functional digital working environment, which involves the operationalization of an information management system for the office.
