Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice nominee, recently faced the Parliamentary Appointments Committee to discuss his qualifications for the role and address concerns about potential conflicts of interest from his prior legal work.

With a distinguished career spanning over three decades and a doctorate from Stanford University, Dr. Ayine pledged to uphold constitutional values and prioritize Ghana's interests.

A key topic during the session was Dr. Ayine’s past legal representation of Cassius Mining Ltd, an Australian gold mining company. When questioned about his involvement, he provided clarity on his current status with the firm.

Dr. Ayine assured the Committee of his commitment to adhering to constitutional provisions on conflicts of interest. "As Attorney-General, my sole responsibility will be to the Republic of Ghana. I will dedicate myself fully to defending the nation's interests in all legal matters," he declared.

Reflecting on his time as Deputy Attorney-General under Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, Dr. Ayine highlighted his role in fostering ethical practices within the Ministry of Justice.

On the Cassius Mining dispute, Dr. Ayine expressed confidence in his ability to handle the matter effectively. "Should this case progress to the London Court of International Arbitration, I am familiar with the tribunal’s procedures and will ensure that Ghana's position is robustly defended," he reassured.

The ongoing dispute involves Cassius Mining’s $277 million claim against Ghana at the London Court of International Arbitration. The company argues that the government’s decision not to renew its prospecting license derailed its gold project in Talensi.
