Former Adansi Asokwa MP, Kobina Tahiru Hammond, has signaled his intention to challenge the GH¢60,000 cost imposed on him by the Obuasi High Court after his election petition was thrown out.
On Tuesday, the court dismissed Hammond’s petition against the victory of Godwin Dorani of the NDC, citing his repeated failure to attend hearings on three occasions.
Justice Kwabena Twumasi described the petition as a waste of time and fined the former lawmaker accordingly.
Speaking to the media after the ruling, Hammond argued the penalty was excessive and insisted the NDC’s win was “by default” rather than merit. He alleged irregularities during the 2024 polls, including misplaced ballot boxes and voter apathy within his own party.
He further explained his absence in court, attributing it to legal representation issues and what he called a “mix-up” with his lawyers. Despite the setback, Hammond says he is determined to pursue an appeal.
