During a meeting with key stakeholders at the Police Headquarters yesterday, Dr. Dampare outlined the measures being implemented to maintain law and order throughout the electoral process.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and Chairman of the National Election Security Taskforce, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has assured Ghanaians of a well-coordinated security strategy to ensure peaceful, free, and fair elections on December 7.

During a meeting with key stakeholders at the Police Headquarters yesterday, Dr. Dampare outlined the measures being implemented to maintain law and order throughout the electoral process. He emphasized the readiness of the security forces to handle potential challenges before, during, and after the polls.

Dr. Dampare highlighted the importance of trust and collaboration among stakeholders in ensuring a smooth electoral process. He explained that the security plan for the 2024 General Election is the result of two years of dedicated planning.

Describing the framework as a "blueprint for election security," he noted that it was designed to address immediate needs while providing a model for election security for the next 30 years. “This plan is not just for today but will serve as a guiding document for the next three decades,” he said, citing its success in recent by-elections and political party contests.

The IGP revealed that the operational aspects of the security blueprint had already been shared across the country. "So far, the portion of the plan specific to the December 7, 2024 elections has been disseminated nationwide, and officers are reviewing their deployment roles to ensure readiness," he stated.

Acknowledging past challenges during elections, particularly at collation centres, Dr. Dampare underscored the importance of safeguarding these critical locations. He shared that the National Elections Security Taskforce is collaborating closely with the Electoral Commission to ensure all collation centres meet stringent security standards to facilitate an orderly process.

Dr. Dampare urged stakeholders and the media to communicate these security assurances to the public to bolster confidence in the system. He emphasized that public trust in the security forces is vital for a peaceful election, contributing to Ghana’s democratic legacy.
