The suit, filed on August 26, 2025, seeks GHS 20 million in damages, alongside other reliefs, following what Dr. Abbey describes as “false, malicious and reckless” statements made by Abronye during a broadcast and amplified on social media.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD and veteran broadcaster, Dr. Randy Abbey, has dragged outspoken politician and Bono Regional NPP Chairman, Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC), to court over alleged defamatory remarks.

The suit, filed on August 26, 2025, seeks GHS 20 million in damages, alongside other reliefs, following what Dr. Abbey describes as “false, malicious and reckless” statements made by Abronye during a broadcast and amplified on social media.

Allegations in Question

According to the writ, Abronye accused Dr. Abbey of:

Misusing state resources by allegedly transporting his personal chair in multiple Land Cruisers to cocoa farms because he refused to sit on chairs offered by farmers.

Manipulating COCOBOD appointments for personal gain and enabling embezzlement of public funds.

The statements, Abbey insists, were completely fabricated with the sole intent of tarnishing his reputation and subjecting him to public ridicule and contempt.

Reliefs Sought

COCOBOD’s Legal Department, representing Abbey, is asking the court to grant:

A declaration that Abronye’s statements were defamatory.

A retraction and unqualified apology to be published across all media platforms.

Removal of all defamatory content from circulation online.

General, punitive and compensatory damages totaling GHS 20 million.

A perpetual injunction restraining Abronye from further defamatory remarks.

Payment of legal costs and any other orders deemed fit by the court.
