The Ministry of the Interior has extended the curfew imposed on Bawku Municipality and nearby communities in the Upper East Region due to ongoing security concerns.
According to an official statement issued on Monday, March 3, and signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the curfew will now be in effect daily from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, starting immediately.
Authorities have called on traditional leaders, elders, community influencers, and the youth to exercise patience and work towards peaceful resolutions to conflicts in the area. The statement also urged residents to embrace dialogue and non-violent approaches in settling disputes to foster lasting stability.
Additionally, the Ministry has reinforced a strict prohibition on the possession of firearms, ammunition, and any offensive weapons within the affected zones.
"Anyone caught in possession of weapons will face arrest and prosecution," the statement warned.
The curfew renewal is part of the government's broader strategy to enhance security and curb tensions in the region.
