The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has urged swift approval of its proposed salary revisions for members.
The association stated that the Judicial Council has completed its salary and allowance review recommendations and submitted them to President Akufo-Addo for approval, as required under Article 149 of the Constitution.
In a statement issued on December 31, 2024, JUSAG acknowledged the President's directive to Parliament to deliberate on the budgets of the Audit Service, Parliamentary Service, and Judicial Service. The association welcomed this move, noting that the budgets incorporate provisions for compensation, including salaries and allowances.
Despite this progress, JUSAG voiced concerns over delays in the approval process. The association revealed that its National Executive Council (NEC) has petitioned Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to facilitate a speedy resolution.
"As of December 30, the latest update indicates that the Judicial Council's recommendations are under serious consideration by His Excellency, the President. The matter has been forwarded to the Minister of Finance for further updates," the statement explained.
Although reassured by these developments, JUSAG warned of potential industrial actions if the approval and implementation of the revised salary structure face undue delays.
"We are closely monitoring developments and have prepared a range of industrial action measures to address any significant delays by the government," the association emphasized.
