The ruling supports Attafuah’s 2023 decision to terminate Akowuah’s appointment over an unauthorized change to working hours at the NIA’s Madina district office.
The National Labour Commission (NLC) has upheld the dismissal of Martin Akowuah, a former National Identification Authority employee (NIA) employee, by its Executive Secretary, Professor Ken Attafuah.
The ruling supports Attafuah’s 2023 decision to terminate Akowuah’s appointment over an unauthorized change to working hours at the NIA’s Madina district office.
Akowuah had filed a grievance with the Commission, contesting his dismissal and alleging unfair treatment. However, after reviewing the matter, the NLC ruled on March 14 that the termination complied with public sector regulations.
According to the Commission, the action taken by Professor Attafuah aligned with both the Human Resource Management Policy Framework and the NIA's standard operating procedures, emphasizing that Akowuah’s unilateral alteration of office hours lacked proper authorization.
Responding to the ruling, Professor Attafuah stated that fairness has always guided his leadership, citing his background as a human rights advocate and legal professional.
He also highlighted broader challenges within public service leadership in Ghana, pointing to politicization and misinformation as obstacles to effective management.
