The legal team of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has announced plans to explore alternative legal remedies after the High Court dismissed his application challenging an arrest warrant issued by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
The Court, in its ruling on Thursday, July 31, held that the application lacked merit, upholding the validity of the warrant and the ongoing proceedings by the OSP.
Speaking to Citi FM, his lawyer, Frank Davies, stated that there are avenues open to every lawyer and that his side will consider them carefully to challenge OSP's warrant.
Mr. Ofori-Atta is under investigation for alleged corruption and procurement infractions during his tenure as finance minister.
The former minister had argued that the OSP’s arrest warrant was secured without due process and infringed on his constitutional rights. However, the court disagreed, affirming that the OSP acted within its lawful mandate.
Mr. Ofori-Atta has not yet appeared before the Special Prosecutor, citing medical treatment abroad. He was declared wanted in June, with the OSP initiating a collaboration with Interpol to aid in his arrest and return.
