The defence team says it will file an appeal at the High Court in Koforidua on 17 March, with the aim of challenging the remand order and seeking bail for their client.
Lawyers for former New Patriotic Party National Chairman Freddie Blay say they are moving to overturn the decision that sent him into police custody over the Kitase land dispute.
The defence team says it will file an appeal at the High Court in Koforidua on 17 March, with the aim of challenging the remand order and seeking bail for their client.
Mr Blay was remanded on Monday, 16 March, after appearing before the Akropong Circuit Court in relation to a dispute over a parcel of land in the Eastern Region.
His lawyers say they consider that decision unjustified and believe a higher court will provide relief.
Speaking after the proceedings, defence lawyer Gregory Asiedu said preparations for the appeal had already begun and confirmed that the legal team would ask the High Court to review the remand and admit Mr Blay to bail.
The underlying case arose after a person claiming ownership of the land reported the matter to police, alleging unlawful activity on the property.
According to the account presented, Mr Blay was invited to assist with investigations following the complaint.
The matter later escalated, leading to his arrest and court appearance.
After hearing the initial facts, the Akropong Circuit Court ordered that he remain in custody while investigations continue.
His lawyers, however, say the remand should not have been imposed in the circumstances and are now seeking to have that position reversed through the appeal process.
