President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of public legal practitioners in creating a society where the rule of law is articulated and practiced.

He highlighted that, in Ghana’s Fourth Republic, the role of public legal services has expanded considerably. A well-trained, adequately supported legal team can safeguard national assets, protect citizens' rights, and ensure the governance structure operates within legal bounds.

At the inaugural conference for public legal practitioners in Accra, President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the unique responsibilities of public sector lawyers, noting that their role goes beyond routine legal work. They are charged with embedding high standards of legal and ethical integrity into public service—a task that demands continuous professional growth, coordination, and alignment with national objectives.

The President recognized their dedication, stating that the government values their contributions and remains committed to strengthening the legal framework within public services. He urged public legal practitioners to embrace their duties with renewed purpose, contributing to a legacy of legal excellence that will bolster public service for future generations.

Held over three days with the theme "Coordinating Legally for an Efficient and Cohesive Public Service," the conference aimed to underscore the crucial role of public sector lawyers in promoting justice and safeguarding the interests of both the public and the state. President Akufo-Addo voiced confidence that their efforts would help build a capable, unified, and legally empowered public service benefiting all Ghanaians.

He further expressed support for the Attorney-General’s initiative to develop a modernized, resourceful public legal service, revealing that since 2017, nearly 190 state attorneys have been recruited, with more hires expected soon, almost doubling the staff in legal departments across public institutions.

Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Godfred Yeboah Dame highlighted the need for coordinated efforts among state attorneys and legal departments within various government institutions. He advocated for regular collaboration and knowledge-sharing across legal teams to align with each institution's specific needs.

Ghana Bar Association President Efua Ghartey, speaking publicly for the first time since her appointment, reminded practitioners to uphold high ethical standards, noting that their decisions shape policy and set precedents with wide-reaching impacts on the nation. She called on them to act transparently and avoid conflicts of interest, ensuring their actions reflect a commitment to justice and accountability.
