The accused, Gideon Yeboah, 39, a recovery manager, and Godfred Bright Eku, 50, the general manager, are facing charges of conspiracy, unlawful entry, and theft of goods worth GH¢513,000.
Two managers from Bridge Micro Credit have been arraigned in an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly confiscating 955 women's garments from a client’s shop due to unpaid loan installments.
The accused, Gideon Yeboah, 39, a recovery manager, and Godfred Bright Eku, 50, the general manager, are facing charges of conspiracy, unlawful entry, and theft of goods worth GH¢513,000. Both have pleaded not guilty.
Presiding over the case, Judge Christina Cann granted them bail, setting the amount at GH¢513,000 with three sureties each. Two of the sureties must justify. The case has been adjourned to February 24, 2025.
According to Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, who led the prosecution, the complainant, Benjamin Okpoti, a clergyman from Gbawe, Accra, filed the report after his wife, Sally Naadei Neequaye, encountered issues with her loan repayment.
In April 2024, Neequaye took out a GH¢50,000 loan from Bridge Micro Credit under an agreement to pay GH¢11,249 monthly over six months. While she made her first installment in August 2024, she failed to meet subsequent payments.
On December 19, 2024, Yeboah and Eku, along with six others, reportedly entered Neequaye’s store in Tudu and took 955 pieces of ready-made women’s dresses, packing them into two large bags before leaving.
Following a police complaint, the two managers were arrested. During investigations, they admitted to taking the goods, and authorities managed to retrieve 166 dresses. However, they were unable to account for the remaining 784 pieces, valued at GH¢513,000.
