Daniel Ofosu-Appiah, a resident of the Volta Region, has formally requested President John Mahama to remove the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, along with her two deputies, Samuel Tettey and Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, as well as EC member Dr. Peter Appiahene.

In a petition submitted on January 27, 2025, Ofosu-Appiah accuses the EC officials of violating constitutional provisions, demonstrating incompetence, and displaying bias, all of which, he claims, have eroded public confidence in the Electoral Commission.

The petition points to alleged violations of Article 42 of the 1992 Constitution, which guarantees citizens' right to vote, and Articles 23 and 296, which require fairness and impartiality in public service. A central issue raised is the disenfranchisement of residents in Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi (SALL), who were excluded from voting in the 2020 parliamentary elections. The petitioner argues that this exclusion was unconstitutional and politically damaging.

The petition also criticizes the handling of the 2020 elections, particularly with respect to alleged irregularities in the presidential results and the impartiality of key EC officials. Additionally, it cites the past comments and social media activities of Dr. Asare and Dr. Appiahene as evidence of political bias.

Ofosu-Appiah has urged President Mahama to invoke Article 146 of the Constitution to begin the process of removing these EC officials, believing that such action is crucial to restoring trust in the electoral system. The petition is accompanied by supporting documents, but the presidency has not yet issued a formal response
