The High Court (Criminal Division) trying the case involving the murder of Major Maxwell Mahama has found twelve persons and has duly sentenced them to life imprisonment.

The convicts are Bernard Asamoah, aka Daddy; Kofi Nyarko, aka Abortion; Akwasi Baah, Kwame Tuffour, Joseph Appiah Kubi, Michael Anim; John Bosie; Akwasi Baah; Charles Kwaning; Emmanuel Badu; Kwadwo Anim and the Assemblyman for the area, William Baah.

DL News correspondent in the courtroom, Richard Osei Boateng reports that the seven-member jury returned a not-guilty verdict in favor of two persons, Bismark Donkor and Bismarck Abanga, which means they have been acquitted and discharged.

The 14 persons were arrested in connection with their alleged respective roles in contributing to the lynching of Major Maxwell Mahama on May 29, 2017, at Denkyia Obuasi in the Central Region of Ghana.

The late Major was on duty at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region when, on May 29, 2017, some residents allegedly mistook him for an armed robber and lynched him.

The mob had ignored his persistent plea that he was an officer of the Ghana Armed Forces.

In all, the prosecution called 14 witnesses before closing its case in July 2022.
