An Accra Circuit Court has released 38-year-old Mershack Arthur on bail after he was accused of stealing a Man Diesel truck head belonging to DBS Roofing Sheet Company Limited.
Arthur’s bail was set at GH¢75,000 with two sureties, one of whom must justify the bail. He has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to return to court on December 3, 2025. The case is being heard by Her Honour Basilia Adjei-Tawiah.
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori-Appiah, the complainant, Emmanuel Sarkodie, works as the transport officer for DBS Roofing and lives in Kasoa, while the accused is employed by the same company as an operator and resides at Teshie’s Martey Ma.
The Man Diesel truck head, registered GS 2587-20, was reported missing on September 8 from the company’s warehouse near the Tema Motorway. The complaint prompted officers at the Manet Police Station to begin investigations.
Investigators received a tip-off from a witness, Anthony Sackey, leading to Arthur’s arrest. Police say their findings show that Arthur had been planning the theft for more than a year.
On the morning of September 6, at around 5:50 a.m., Arthur allegedly entered the warehouse with a towing truck and removed the Man Diesel head, transporting it to the Martey Tsuru area to look for a buyer. Three days later, he procured another towing truck to relocate the vehicle again. The attempt failed, and he was arrested at Achimota.
He was initially detained at the Tesano Police Station before being transferred to Manet Police Station.
Police report that Arthur admitted the act in his caution statement, after which he was formally charged with the theft and brought before the court.
The trial continues.
