A 28-year-old mason has been sentenced to four years in prison by the Asante Akropong Circuit Court for theft in Adankwame, a community near Akropong in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District.

Prince Anim Cobbina, the convicted mason, pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced accordingly by the court, presided over by Her Honour Mrs. Philomena Asiedu.

Case Details

Presenting the case, Police Chief Inspector Ruth Gborson stated that the complainants, Emmanuel Amo, an electric welder, and Angelina Atia, a drinking bar attendant, both reside in Adankwame, while the convict is from Kwahu Abetifi in the Eastern Region.

On February 6, 2025, Emmanuel Amo discovered that his welding shop had been broken into. A metal gate had been damaged, and several items, including a wheelbarrow, three head pans, two pickaxes, two burglar-proof metals, and half a bag of cement—amounting to GH₵5,000—were missing. He reported the incident to the Akropong police.

That same day, Angelina Atia also reported a break-in at her shop, where various goods, including a gas cylinder, a gallon of ‘akpeteshie’ (a local alcoholic beverage), packs of ‘Adonko’ and ‘Alamo’ bitters, bottles of Guinness, Storm energy drinks, Five-Star energy drinks, and Tampico, valued at GH₵1,000, had been stolen.

Arrest and Sentencing

As police investigations unfolded, Cobbina was caught transporting the stolen goods in a wheelbarrow. He was immediately apprehended. Upon questioning, he admitted to the crime and led the authorities to where he had hidden the stolen items.

Following further investigations, charges were filed against him, leading to his conviction and sentencing by the court.
