Mobile Banker Jailed for Stealing GH¢70,840 from Employer
A 29-year-old mobile banker, Aziz Suleman, has been handed a five-year prison sentence by an Accra Circuit Court for embezzling GH¢70,840 from his employer, Abii National Savings and Loans.
Presiding Judge Jojo Amoah Hagan delivered the sentence after Suleman admitted to the charge of stealing. In addition to serving time, Suleman has been ordered to pay back GH¢58,840 of the stolen funds. Investigators confirmed he had already returned GH¢12,000 during the early stages of the probe.
The case came to light on May 9, 2025, when Jennifer Benninig, the branch manager at Abii National, noticed a shortfall of GH¢45,000. She promptly reported the matter to the Kaneshie Police, leading to Suleman’s arrest. During questioning, he confessed to the theft.
An audit carried out shortly after, and in the presence of the accused, revealed the full extent of the loss—GH¢70,840 in total.
