The ruling, issued on Monday, October 21, represents a major blow for Mornah and his party as the December election approaches.
The High Court has rejected an application from Bernard Mornah, the presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), who sought to challenge the Electoral Commission’s decision to disqualify him from the upcoming presidential election.
The ruling, issued on Monday, October 21, represents a major blow for Mornah and his party as the December election approaches.
Mornah's disqualification stemmed from issues with his nomination forms, which the Electoral Commission found to be incomplete, preventing him from participating in the election.
After his disqualification, Mornah filed a legal challenge, claiming the decision was unjustified. However, the High Court sided with the Electoral Commission and upheld their ruling.
The decision has fueled debates within Ghana's political arena, with some questioning the transparency and fairness of the process.
Mornah’s supporters argue that the disqualification process lacks openness, raising concerns about the Electoral Commission’s handling of such matters.
Despite this setback, Mornah has vowed to continue pushing for electoral reforms in the country.
He was seeking an order of mandamus to compel the Electoral Commission to clear him as a duly nominated candidate of his party to contest the 2024 election.
Additionally, he sought the court to issue the writs of certiorari and mandamus directed at the EC and also restrain the electoral management body from proceeding to print the Presidential ballot papers until he is declared a duly nominated candidate to contest.
