The National Communications Authority (NCA) has ordered the suspension of nine radio stations across Ghana for breaching broadcasting regulations — a list that includes three outlets owned by Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, widely known as Wontumi.

The decision, announced in an August 12 statement, comes after a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama for defaulting stations to address regulatory violations expired without compliance from several operators.

While some stations took corrective action during the amnesty window, the NCA said six made no effort to comply, and three others left certain violations unresolved. Issues cited include unauthorised use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies, operating transmitters from unapproved locations, and lacking a valid Certificate of Compliance in breach of Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991).

The affected stations are Donplus Multimedia Limited (Ho, 105.9), Dreams Ghana Media Limited (New Abirem, 104.9), Jam Multimedia Limited (Kintampo, 101.3), Jewel Group Limited (Duayaw Nkwanta, 102.7), Kandai Star Community Radio (Kpandai, 107.3), Unique Gateway Communication Limited, and Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited stations in Accra (95.9), Kumasi (101.3), and Takoradi (101.3).

The NCA reaffirmed its resolve to enforce broadcasting laws and maintain order in Ghana’s media space, warning that it will continue monitoring the airwaves to ensure strict compliance.
