Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Amenfi Central Constituency in the Western Region, has been disqualified from running in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
The Electoral Commission (EC), in a letter dated October 10, 2024, and signed by Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman of Operations, informed Joana Gyan Cudjoe of her disqualification due to a pending court case.
The case against her alleges that she deliberately forged her NDC party card and backdated it to meet the party’s election guidelines, which require a four-year membership.
The issue arose after Gyedu Frimpong, a resident of Amenfi Central, petitioned the EC to reject her nomination based on an injunction from the High Court in Sekondi, which barred the EC from accepting her forms.
The petition further explained that, as part of her NDC primary candidacy requirements, Mrs. Cudjoe had to present a valid national voter’s ID card.
However, the voter’s ID she submitted had 11 digits, while the standard ID format contains 10 digits, as required by the Public Elections Regulations.
