The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Majority Caucus in Parliament is pressing the party’s leadership to cancel and rerun the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary, following allegations of vote buying and inducement during the contest.

In a statement dated 8 February 2026 and signed by the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mahama Ayariga, the caucus said it had taken note of widely circulated claims that delegates were induced during the process, describing the development as inconsistent with the party’s “reset” agenda and internal democratic values.

The MPs are calling on the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee to:

annul the primary immediately, and

bar any candidate found culpable from contesting in the rerun.

The primary has been dogged by reports that items were distributed to delegates during voting. Media reports said aspirant Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed’s camp handed out 32-inch television sets and provided boiled eggs, which critics describe as inducement.

The controversy has also attracted attention from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), which has announced investigations into alleged vote buying and vote selling related to both the NDC Ayawaso East primary and the NPP presidential primary.

Separately, the NDC has set up a three-member committee to investigate the Ayawaso East allegations, with reporting timelines in the public domain indicating the findings are expected by 10 February 2026.

The Majority Caucus said its position is driven by a wider objective of restoring confidence in political competition and ensuring party primaries do not become a marketplace for inducement.
