Bishop Francis Sarpong of Calvary Charismatic Baptist Church has expressed concerns over the widespread non-compliance of churches with essential legal and ethical standards in pastoral ministry.
In his latest book, The Pastoral Law, Bishop Sarpong provides practical guidance on crucial matters such as church registration, financial oversight, and adherence to church constitutions.
While Ghana has laws regulating churches, enforcement has been inconsistent, leaving many congregations vulnerable.
The 14-chapter book delves into key topics, including church governance, employment laws, and intellectual property rights, aiming to raise the standards of pastoral ministry across the country.
“These laws exist but are rarely enforced,” Bishop Sarpong noted. “Those of us abroad must adhere to these regulations, or we face consequences. The principles in this book apply to everyone, and following them will make a significant impact.”
Bishop Dominic Allotey, Head Pastor of Living Faith Ministries International Church, Rhema City, stressed the book's relevance beyond church leadership.
“Understanding the legal framework surrounding church operations is essential. Many laws affect our daily lives without us realizing it. Ignorance is not an excuse,” he stated.
Supporters of the book, including Patron Michael Kumah, believe it has the potential to contribute to national development.
"Many of these principles are lacking in our country. I purchased this book to expand my knowledge and positively influence my generation. Wisdom is essential for sustaining ministry," Kumah remarked.
The Pastoral Law was officially launched on March 1, 2025, serving as a vital resource for church leaders. Covering topics such as church registration, constitution drafting, financial regulations, and pastoral counseling, it aims to provide a comprehensive legal and ethical framework for ministry in Ghana.
