The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the temporary suspension of its nationwide strike, clearing the way for the full resumption of national ID registration and related services beginning Monday, June 30, 2025.

The indefinite industrial action, which had disrupted services across the country, was called off following high-level negotiations involving the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU), the National Labour Commission (NLC), the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), and the Ministry of Finance.

In a statement released on Sunday, June 29, and signed by Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, Head of Corporate Affairs at the NIA, the authority acknowledged the staff union’s willingness to dialogue and assured workers that their concerns remain a top priority.

The strike had halted essential services, leaving many Ghanaians unable to register for or access their national ID cards — a key document required for everything from banking to elections. The NIA expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and extended gratitude to the public for their patience.

“All NIA offices and registration centres across the country will resume full operations on Monday, 30th June 2025,” the notice confirmed. Citizens are encouraged to visit centres to continue or complete their registration processes.

The authority reiterated its commitment to providing efficient, accessible, and trustworthy identification services, in line with its mission to support national development and digital governance.
