The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has intensified consultations on its draft regulatory bill with a stakeholder forum held in Accra on Monday, August 25.
The dialogue, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, was chaired by Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor and supported by his deputy, Richard Gyan-Mensah, alongside other ministry officials.
Purpose of the Draft Bill
The proposed legislation seeks to:
Strengthen the regulatory framework of Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
Improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability in operations.
Provide a more modern and robust legal basis for oversight of the industry.
Stakeholder Input
Industry participants were invited to critique and refine provisions of the draft. The NPA noted that the contributions would help ensure the bill responds to the realities of the sector while balancing government policy goals with private sector concerns.
According to the Authority, this inclusive approach demonstrates its commitment to collaborative policymaking and lays the foundation for smooth implementation once the draft is submitted to Parliament for approval.
