The Office of Registrar of Companies has announced it will begin legal processes to clean up its register by June 30, 2024.
It notes that this exercise has become necessary due to the failure of these Professional bodies to file their annual accounts and update their certificate of membership in accordance with the law.
In a Press statement dated May 13, the ORC lists bodies such as the Ghana Bar Association, Ghana Medical Association, Ghana Journalists Association, Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, Ghana Institute of Planners, and others in default as of May 10, 2024.
The Office notes that it directed these bodies, in a meeting with their Executive Council members, to update their membership list by December 2023.
However, only sixty-five (65) out of the Ninety-two (92) registered bodies, have so far not complied with the directive to renew their Certificates and that of their members and therefore have been found in default.
The statement further indicates that these bodies in default have to redeem themselves up to June 30, 2024, by submitting their annual returns accompanied by a copy of their audited accounts, an updated list of their members, and any other changes made to their constitution.
Additionally, the OSP is calling on the bodies that use ‘Chartered’ as part of their names to attach copies of the charter granted them by parliament and to those who do not have to take steps to have it done.
The other defaulted Professional bodies are;
Ghana Institute of Planners, Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, Ghana Institute of Architects, Geological Society of Ghana, Association of Health Services Administrators(Ghana), Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, The Chartered Institute of Bankers, Institute of Human Resources Management Practitioners, Mining Metallurgical and Petroleum Society, Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana, The Insurance Institute of Ghana, Ghana Association of Social Workers, Institution of Engineers and Technology, Ghana Chemical Society, Computing Association of Ghana, Ghana Registered Midwives Association.
The list also has; the Association of Rating Valuers, Ghana Society of Animal Production, Ghana Home Economics Association, Ghana Institute of Science Technology, Ghana Association of Translators and Interpretors, Ghana Institute of Management, Association of Building Technicians, Ghana Institute of Professional Foresters, The Ghana Institute of Taxation, Ghana Institute of Construction, Ghana Society of radiographers and Radiological Technicians, Ghana Association of the Institute of Chartered and Secretaries and Administrators, Ghana Institute of Horticulturalists, Ghana Institute of Information Technology, Dispensing Technologists Society of Ghana, Institute of Internal Auditors and Advertising Association of Ghana.
