According to him, this will ensure that Justice is done to these perpetrators for their acts, and thus called on the Chief Justice to direct Judges sitting on such cases to discharge them expeditiously.

The Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame has appealed for the swift adjudication of ‘galamsey’ cases pending before the various courts in the regions.

According to him, this will ensure that Justice is done to these perpetrators for their acts, and thus called on the Chief Justice to direct Judges sitting on such cases to discharge them expeditiously.

Addressing Judges at the  43rd Conference of the Association of Magistrates and Judges of Ghana(AMJG), the Attorney General added that Galamsey is a national crisis and thus called for swift action.

Also, he mentioned that a particular setback in dealing with the menace was the punishment regime that has been addressed by the Amendment of the Minerals and Mining Act 2019 preferring varied sentences and fines for indigenes and foreigners.

Again, Mr Dame cautioned politicians against encouraging ‘galamsey’ through their comments and actions.

Election-related challenge

The Attorney General called on the Judiciary to strongly resolve disputes that will arise from the impending elections.

He revealed that his office is in the process of seeking the amendment of Representation of the People Law, 1992 - PNDCL 284 for a speedy adjudication of election disputes.
