The Paramount Chief of the Wenchi Traditional Area, Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III, has raised serious concerns over illegal mining activities taking place in Atuna, a community under his authority.
A statement from the Paramount Chief's office, signed by Reindorf Oware, emphasized that neither individuals nor companies have been granted authorization by the Omanhene to conduct mining operations on the land.
The statement declared, “Effective immediately, by the order of Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III, all entities engaged in illegal mining activities are directed to halt operations and vacate the area without delay. All equipment and machinery must be removed by 6:00 PM today, January 5, 2025.”
Additionally, the statement instructed those involved to take responsibility for rehabilitating the affected areas. Excavated pits must be filled, and damaged land restored to its original state to safeguard the environment and ensure public safety. It further warned that failure to comply with these directives would result in severe consequences.
The Omanhene appealed to all residents and stakeholders within the Wenchi Traditional Area to uphold the rule of law and respect the land, emphasizing the importance of environmental preservation.
