Francis Owusu, 55, was granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with one surety.

A pastor accused of causing a road crash that left seven passengers injured has been granted bail by the Nkawie Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region.

Francis Owusu, 55, was granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with one surety.

He appeared before the court on charges arising from a head-on collision near Afari township in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.

Owusu pleaded guilty to careless and inconsiderate driving.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to causing harm.

The court, presided over by Mr Robert Addo, adjourned the case to July 27, 2026.

According to the prosecution, Owusu is the founder and leader of Christ Upper Room Church at Kronom-Afrancho in the Suame Municipality.

Police Inspector Kwaku Frimpong told the court that the incident happened on April 21, 2026, at about 10:00 p.m.

Owusu was driving a Nissan Amanda with registration number AS 5615-16 from Anyinamso towards Atwima-Mim.

The prosecution said when he got to a section of the road near Afari, he allegedly veered off his lane and collided with an oncoming bus.

The bus, with registration number AS 4854-19, had 14 passengers on board.

Seven of the passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to the Afari Community Hospital.

Two of them, who suffered serious injuries, were referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

The matter was later reported to the Nkawie Police, leading to Owusu’s arrest.

The prosecution said the accused admitted the offences in his caution statement.

He was charged after further investigations and brought before the court.
