Hospital Administrator Aloysius Bokuma says police have started interrogating staff who were on duty around the time the baby was reported missing.
The disappearance of a newborn baby from the Salaga Municipal Hospital has triggered both a police inquiry and an internal fact-finding process by health authorities.
Hospital Administrator Aloysius Bokuma says police have started interrogating staff who were on duty around the time the baby was reported missing.
The questioning covers workers from two separate shifts.
According to Mr Bokuma, several staff members have been identified for questioning as investigators try to reconstruct events leading to the disappearance.
He said the hospital management has also escalated the matter to the Northern Regional Health Directorate.
An official incident report has been submitted to the Regional Director of Health Services.
A team from the Directorate is expected to visit Salaga on Friday to conduct its own assessment of the incident.
Mr Bokuma said management would wait for the outcome of that visit before making a detailed public statement.
He declined to discuss the hospital’s security arrangements, explaining that the facility did not want to release incomplete information.
He said a comprehensive report would be shared with the media after the regional team completes its work.
The administrator described the incident as the first of its kind during his time at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the family of the missing baby says the lack of information on the child’s whereabouts is becoming increasingly distressing.
Relatives are appealing to the police, hospital authorities and health officials to act swiftly to locate the newborn.
Investigations are still ongoing.
