The Constitution Review Consultative Committee has recommended the scrapping of Article 68(5) from the 1992 Constitution to make Ghanaian presidents pay taxes on their salaries and emoluments.

This recommendation was made during a stakeholder consultation on a potential review of the Constitution.

As it stands now in the fourth republic, presidents of Ghana are not required to pay taxes on their earnings while in office.

Thus, it is argued that this will set a good precedent for all citizens and uphold the principle of equality before the law.

Additionally, the committee recommended capping the number of parliamentary seats, proposing changes to Article 93 to limit parliament to a maximum of 277 elected members.

In order to achieve this, the Committee wants Article 47 to be amended to ensure the country's constituencies are determined by the Electoral Commission (EC), with the total number not exceeding 277.

On the size of government, the Committee suggested eliminating the roles of Deputy Ministers and Regional Ministers by pegging the total number of ministers at a maximum of 25.
