The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has once again questioned the academic credentials of Edward Dua Agyeman, the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Audit Service, urging him to provide credible documentation supporting his use of the title “Professor” — or to cease using it altogether.
In a letter dated June 27, 2025, and signed by Deputy Director General Professor Augustine Ocloo, the Commission stated that there is no official record confirming Dua Agyeman’s appointment or promotion to the rank of professor by any recognised tertiary institution.
This latest correspondence follows an earlier directive issued on June 17, in which GTEC cautioned that the misuse of unearned academic titles could undermine public trust in Ghana’s education system.
According to the letter, rather than submitting the required official documentation, Dua Agyeman reportedly responded in the public domain by outlining his qualifications and career achievements. GTEC, however, stressed that the matter is not one of public debate but a question of formal institutional verification.
The Commission questioned Dua Agyeman’s assertion that he was appointed as a lecturer in 2004, noting that he only obtained his master’s degree in 2009 — raising concerns about whether he was lecturing with just a first degree.
Furthermore, GTEC cast doubt on his claim of earning a PhD from Warnborough College in 2013 and queried whether he had ever been promoted through the conventional academic ranks, such as senior lecturer or associate professor.
At present, the only verifiable academic credential on record, according to the Commission, is Dua Agyeman’s PhD from Warnborough College in 2013. There is no credible documentation confirming his elevation to professorial status.
GTEC has therefore reiterated its demand for Dua Agyeman to submit formal evidence from a recognised university confirming his appointment as a professor. Until such documentation is received and validated, the Commission has asked him to refrain from using the title.
He has been given until Thursday, July 10, 2025, to comply.
