The owners pleaded guilty to not complying with existing noise regulations.

The Madina Magistrate Court on Wednesday issued fines of GHC 480.00 each to owners of  Cloud ‘9’ and Oak Lounge for noise pollution in a residential area.

Bernice Ofori Nyarko, the Environmental Health Prosecutor told the Court that noise assessment reports from the Environmental Protection Agency showed that the pubs had exceeded the required decibel level of 48dB.

She further informed the court that the operators had refused to comply with written notices from residents and the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit to minimise the noise levels and thus they were charged to appear before the court.

The owners, Ruth Drovi, Calvin Esseka, Prince Nketiah, and Hawa consequently pleaded guilty to not complying with existing noise regulations.

Speaking to reporters, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Joseph Quacoe said complaints about noise pollution within the Madina Municipality have increased, and therefore cautioned owners of Pubs to operate in accordance with section 4 of the La Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Assembly Abatement of noise bye-laws.
