Supreme Court Judge, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, has called on Ghanaians—especially young people—to cultivate a habit of reading the law, regardless of their profession.
Speaking at the 50th anniversary celebration of the 1975 graduating class of Hohoe Evangelical Presbyterian Senior High School, Justice Dzamefe explained that beyond legal practice, understanding the law equips individuals with knowledge of their basic rights under the Constitution, strengthening democracy in the process.
Sharing his personal journey, Justice Dzamefe recounted how he rose to the bench without first practicing as a lawyer, encouraging students not to be discouraged by their backgrounds.
Justice Dzamefe also announced plans to construct a new science block and library for the school.
The ceremony brought back fond memories for members of the 1975 class, including Richard Agbeko Attipoe, who said returning to campus after five decades was both nostalgic and inspiring. He added that their visit was intended to motivate current students by showcasing Justice Dzamefe’s journey from their own school to the Supreme Court.
Headmaster Franklin Amesimeku expressed gratitude for the alumni’s visit and appealed for additional support, including an assembly hall and a school bus, to enhance teaching and learning.
