The National Labour Commission (NLC) has stepped in to stop the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) from embarking on a planned strike, amidst ongoing tensions with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
In a statement released on Wednesday, June 25, the NLC confirmed receipt of GAUA’s letter expressing frustration over GTEC’s alleged failure to comply with a prior directive.
The Commission reminded both parties of its June 9 instruction, which required them to engage in discussions and report outcomes by July 9.
The NLC has directed GAUA to put any intended industrial action on hold until the scheduled meeting.
“The Union is therefore directed to refrain from any intended action… as parties are scheduled to appear before the Commission on 9th July, 2025 at 11:00 am,” the statement read.
In a parallel directive, the Commission ordered GTEC to submit a formal response to the accusations by close of business on Friday, June 27. GTEC must either confirm its compliance with the earlier directive or provide evidence to prove it.
This intervention aims to de-escalate tensions while the NLC seeks a mediated resolution between the two parties.
