Hlo, who has been charged with two counts of theft, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
A salesman, Samuel Kwasi Hlo, has been brought before the Dansoman Circuit Court for allegedly misappropriating GH¢111,591 in cash and stealing auto parts worth GH¢144,313 from Auto Avenue Enterprise.
Hlo, who has been charged with two counts of theft, pleaded not guilty to the charges. Presiding judge Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit granted him bail set at GH¢300,000.
The bail conditions require three sureties, two of whom must be public servants earning a minimum of GH¢5,000 monthly. One of the sureties must also provide immovable property with title deeds matching the bail amount.
As part of the bail terms, the accused must surrender his Ghana Card to the court registry and report once a week. The prosecution was instructed to submit all relevant disclosures and witness statements before the case resumes on March 7, 2025.
Case Background
According to Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye, who is leading the prosecution, the complainant, Makella Amevenu, is the Managing Director of Auto Avenue Enterprise, an auto parts business at Dansoman Exhibition Roundabout. Hlo, who had worked as a salesman for the company for seven years, allegedly introduced his son to work at the firm without management’s knowledge or approval.
This led to a dispute with the company’s driver, ultimately resulting in Hlo’s suspension. Following this, the company conducted an audit covering transactions between January 4, 2021, and October 3, 2023. The audit reportedly uncovered discrepancies, showing that stock worth GH¢111,591 assigned to Hlo was unaccounted for. Additionally, GH¢144,313 in payments received from customers was missing.
On February 9, 2024, Hlo was arrested and handed over to the Dansoman Police for investigation. He was granted police bail to facilitate a reconciliation process with the company. However, during the review, he allegedly realized the extent of the financial discrepancies and fled, breaking his bail conditions.
Authorities pursued the case, and his surety was issued a forfeiture notice, compelling them to produce the accused. On February 6, 2025, Hlo was eventually handed over to the investigator by his surety and subsequently brought before the court.
The case continues as investigations proceed.
