Describing the accusations as “baseless and malicious”, Mr. Gyamfi has filed a defamation lawsuit at the High Court, demanding GH¢10 million in damages from media personality Afia Schwarzenegger.
Sammy Gyamfi, CEO of Goldbod and National Communications Officer of the NDC, has come out strongly against allegations suggesting he bought property in the United States for his wife or for her supposed sister.
Describing the accusations as “baseless and malicious”, Mr. Gyamfi has filed a defamation lawsuit at the High Court, demanding GH¢10 million in damages from media personality Afia Schwarzenegger.
The suit, filed on Wednesday, July 23, insists that Afia Schwarzenegger’s statements were not only untrue but were deliberately crafted to tarnish his hard-earned reputation and paint him as “morally depraved and without any scruples.”
In his statement of claim, Mr. Gyamfi firmly denied any romantic involvement with students at the University of Ghana, and dismissed suggestions that he had purchased cars for any so-called girlfriends. He also made it clear that he has never bought property anywhere in the United States or elsewhere for his wife or any member of her family.
He pointed out that his wife does not even have a sister called “Vida”, contrary to what the defendant alleged, and added that “any reasonable investigation would have revealed this fact.”
Mr. Gyamfi accused the defendant of spreading these falsehoods either knowingly or with what he called “unpardonably reckless disregard for the truth.”
He noted that ever since the publication of the allegations, he has been inundated with calls and has faced “very embarrassing and difficult questions” from senior party officials, government figures, family, friends, and colleagues both at home and abroad.
Through this legal action, he is not only seeking damages but also aiming to clear his name and prevent such conduct from recurring in the future.
