The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has issued a public warning against two online platforms—News GH and Ghana News—for promoting unlicensed and potentially fraudulent investment products on social media.
In a statement released on July 1, 2025, the SEC cautioned the public to exercise vigilance and refrain from investing in schemes that have not been approved under Ghanaian law.
According to the Commission, News GH is advertising an investment platform known as “Gold AI Rise Platform”, which has not received any regulatory authorization. Ghana News, on the other hand, is promoting an unnamed investment scheme that allegedly promises unrealistically high returns with zero risk—a classic hallmark of fraudulent operations.
"The SEC wishes to inform the public that neither News GH nor Ghana News has been licensed to operate or offer any form of investment service within Ghana’s capital market," the statement emphasized, referencing Section 3 of the Securities Industry Act, 2016 (Act 929), as amended.
The regulator assured the public that it is actively working with law enforcement agencies to track down and prosecute the individuals behind these illegal investment promotions.
As part of its mandate to protect investors, the SEC said it will continue monitoring the securities space and release regular advisories on suspicious activities.
The Commission urged the public to verify the regulatory status of any investment firm by contacting SEC via its toll-free number 0800-100065, main line 0302-768970-2, or email: info@sec.gov.gh before engaging in any financial transactions.
