Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, known as Shatta Wale, has filed a defamation suit against social commentator Abubakar Ahmed, popularly called Black Rasta, seeking damages of GH¢100 million.
The claim centres on a video posted on 15 December 2025 and titled “SHATTA WALE, SELF CONFESSED KING OF FRAUD”—a publication Shatta Wale says is false and damaging to his reputation.
In court papers filed on 15 January by his lawyers, Robert Smith Law and Group, the musician is asking the court to declare the statements in the video defamatory and to order their immediate and permanent removal from the defendant’s social media platforms.
He is also seeking an injunction to restrain Black Rasta, his agents or associates from making or circulating further allegedly defamatory comments about him.
In addition, the suit requests a public retraction and an unqualified apology to be posted on the defendant’s social media pages and published as a full-page notice in the Daily Graphic, Ghanaian Times and Graphic Showbiz.
Shatta Wale argues that the comments—by what his filing describes as innuendo—would be understood by “right-thinking” members of the public to mean he lacks honesty and is associated with internet fraud and similar criminal conduct.
He says the publication portrays him as morally reprehensible, untrustworthy and driven by selfish interest, and alleges the content was intended to inflict reputational harm at scale.
The suit also points to the reach of the video online, stating that within 24 hours of being posted on Facebook it recorded more than 150,000 views, over 1,000 comments and more than 6,000 likes, with additional engagement on YouTube.
