The University of Ghana (UG) has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups illegally occupying or attempting to develop portions of its Borteyman lands in Accra, cautioning that such actions amount to criminal trespass.
In a public notice dated August 20, 2025, the university reaffirmed its legal ownership of the property, backed by valid title documents, and made clear that no private allocation, sale, or construction would be tolerated.
The institution invoked provisions of the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036), the University of Ghana Act, 2010 (Act 806), and the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) as the legal framework under which encroachers could be sanctioned. According to the notice, offenders risk prosecution, fines, imprisonment, and demolition of unauthorized structures—with costs borne by the culprits.
UG stressed that it would not hesitate to seek court orders, file writs of possession, or pursue damages to protect its lands. It added that persons who continue to disregard the caution will be solely responsible for the consequences.
The university further urged the public to avoid any unauthorized transactions or purported allocations on the Borteyman property, underscoring that anyone who engages in such dealings does so entirely at their own risk.
