A student has appeared before the Dansoman Circuit Court accused of using a GCB Bank ATM card to withdraw a total of GH¢24,849 from two customers’ accounts.

Regan Kwesi Egbe Addo, also known as Morgan Addo, is facing two counts of stealing in separate cases. He has pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors say the first incident happened on 17 September 2025 at the Ministries ATM in Accra. Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder told the court the accused allegedly posed as a GCB Bank staff member and convinced a customer to follow him to the Société Générale Ghana Premier Towers branch.

The court heard that Addo stood close behind the customer as he entered his PIN, later offering to clean the ATM card chip. Prosecutors allege he swapped the card during the process.

Police say GH¢14,949 was later withdrawn from the complainant’s account at different locations in Accra, including near the Kempinski Hotel and at the Airport City Shell Fuel Station, without permission.

Investigators at the Ministries Police Station retrieved CCTV footage from GCB Bank, the prosecution said, to trace the movements of the complainant and the accused.

In the second case, prosecutors allege the accused used a similar method on 23 December 2025 at about 16:40 to take GH¢9,900 from a female customer, a staff member of the Ministry of Fisheries.

The complainant reported the matter after learning of Addo’s arrest, prosecutors said, adding that he had been placed on a police wanted list over alleged ATM card thefts in the Accra Central Division.

The court granted the accused bail and ordered him to return on 11 March 2026 for a case management conference. Prosecutors have been directed to file witness statements and make disclosures ahead of the next hearing.
