Five individuals have been sentenced by the Tamale Circuit Court for their involvement in various drug-related crimes, including illegal possession, sale, and distribution of controlled and narcotic substances.
The offenders—Iddrisu Fidaws, Alhassan Wumpini, Bassit Iddrisu, Alhassan Adam, and Haruna Mohammed Sadais—were apprehended by police on March 5, 2025, during a routine patrol operation in Tamale. Upon their arrest, authorities discovered tramadol, rohypnol, and cannabis in their possession.
After reviewing the case and taking into account the confessions of the accused, the court delivered a range of sentences based on the charges.
Iddrisu Fidaws faced four charges. For two of them, he received a fine of GH₵90,000.00 each or 15 years in prison if unpaid. The remaining two came with fines of GH₵7,200.00 each or a 10-year sentence in default.
Alhassan Wumpini was also found guilty on four counts. He was fined GH₵90,000.00 on two counts (or 10 years in prison if unpaid) and GH₵10,800.00 on the other two (or 10 years in prison in default).
Bassit Iddrisu was convicted on two counts and fined GH₵19,200.00 per count or six years imprisonment per count if the fines were not settled.
Alhassan Adam faced three charges. He was fined GH₵90,000.00 on one count (or 15 years imprisonment), GH₵10,800.00 on another (or 10 years in default), and a yet-to-be-determined amount on the third charge.
Haruna Mohammed Sadais was handed two fines: GH₵99,996.00 (or 17 years imprisonment) and GH₵84,000.00 (or 10 years imprisonment), depending on payment.
Since none of the convicted individuals could pay their fines, they have all been remanded into prison custody to serve the corresponding jail terms.
