The Commercial Court in Tamale has granted bail to five out of six individuals accused of payroll fraud and corruption, imposing strict conditions on their release.
The sixth defendant was absent from the proceedings due to a late service of summons.
The accused—Yakubu Tahidu, Abdulai Abukari Sadic, Sammy Suuk, Mohammed Yusif Jay, Stafford Korletey Azudey-Barres, and Osman Issahaku—have pleaded not guilty to 17 charges linked to financial losses incurred by the state.
As part of their bail terms, the court has ordered the defendants to surrender their passports. Those without passports must submit their Ghana Cards. Additionally, each accused person is required to provide two sureties, one of whom must be a senior public official.
The case stems from a National Security investigation, which alleges that Yakubu Tahidu, the first accused, continued to receive a government salary despite no longer working as a teacher, while being employed by another state agency. The remaining defendants are accused of either aiding the fraudulent transactions or failing to prevent them.
