The Acting President of the Tema Traditional Council, Nii Adjetey Agbo II, says the council is preparing to ban costly funeral practices in the area to encourage families to invest more in the care and education of their children.
Speaking during the 2025 Homowo celebrations, Nii Agbo said the proposed directive would prohibit the purchase of expensive funeral cloth and the hosting of elaborate burial parties, urging neighboring communities such as La, Nungua, Teshie, and Osu to adopt similar measures.
The Mankralo expressed concern over rising youth delinquency and substance abuse, attributing part of the problem to parental neglect. He revealed that the Council has already engaged religious leaders and the Municipal Chief Executive to discuss enforcement measures and community education.
According to him, redirecting funeral expenses into children’s welfare is crucial for securing both their future and the community’s wellbeing.
